Days of Action
“Great spirits often encounter violent opposition from mediocre minds”. –Albert Einstein.
There’s nothing I like more than a challenge. If you tell me I can’t do something, I’ve already started thinking of the many ways in which I can. That’s exactly the type of County Commissioner I will be... a problem solver, a person of ACTION.
Last weekend, we challenged Denton County, pct 3 to "Days of Action" that included opportunities to get out the vote. We are grateful and proud of this community for showing up, with a strong bias for ACTION, helping more people to find and use their voice through their vote.
One event was a non-partisan drive to register voters at Music City Mall. This was approved in advance and staffed with a registrar; targeting the youth in our community who are stepping up their interest in politics this year like never before. But it was canceled the day before the event due to Republican complaints.
So, we pivoted. Within an hour of learning about the Republican efforts to SUPPRESS VOTER REGISTRATION because they fear a progressive wave, our friend and supporter, Noah with Noah's CUTZ and STYLZ, offered to host the registration drive within his own small business at the mall, which was allowable and as accessible as the public space. We had a successful turnout and registered dozens of first-time voters despite the obstacles put in our way!
Thank you, Noah, and every other community member who supported Delia's Days of Action by writing postcards, distributing yard signs, door-dropping literature, phone-bank calling, and registering to vote.
This weekend was one strong example of the power of our community when together we ACT to have our voices heard.
